Ratatouille
I’m a big fan of Pixar movies. They make me laugh, they make me cry, and sometimes, they even make me hungry (No, I have no intention of munching up cute cars or toys, don’t worry..).
I assume you’ve all seen the movie ‘Ratatouille’, and if you haven’t, you should! The last time I saw this movie it really inspired to go into the kitchen, and whip up the best looking (and best tasting) ratatouille anyone had ever seen! Unfortunately for me, I had none of the required ingredients and it was pouring outside, so maybe some other time..
As it usually goes with food-related ideas I postpone, they just don’t happen. Mostly because there’s always something else in my fridge that needs to be eaten first. But not today..!
Since I love to cook, and the bf loves to eat, both of us have a hard time maintaining the slim physique we once had (i.e. we don’t. I just really prefer food over the gym). However, I’ve always preferred fresh, healthy meals, so really, it’s not my fault! Although the occasional gratins, cupcakes, 3 course meals etc. probably don’t help..
Anyway, I asked the bf what he wanted to eat tonight and he responded with: “Something with rice. That’s healthy, right?”. So, rice it is. Me just being me (I have a tendency to over think pretty much everything), I immediately have about 30 different recipes in my head, which I all run by him and to which he all responds “sounds great”. No help at all from his department.
But then, all of a sudden, I had a Pixar-epiphany: I was going to make ratatouille! And not the kind I usually make, the simple stew with chunks of vegetable, but the actual ‘Ratatouille’ ratatouille! How hard can it be, right? At the moment, I’m reading tons of recipes (also a thing I do: I read about 20 recipes, and then more some, and then I decide I’ll see what happens once I’m in the kitchen and just try it my way) and I think I’ve found the right one. I mean, the writer even had the same idea: recreating the ratatouille from ‘Ratatouille’!
It is a bit laborious, but probably worth it. I’ll post the results and recipe later. Right now I just have to tackle the dilemma of what to eat the ratatouille with: rice, couscous, bulgur, bread, polenta.. and do I serve it with or without cheese? And then what kind of cheese should I use? Or am I over thinking it too much, again..
